Ownership and headquarters come from company registers and official company pages. Hosting regions come from provider documentation. Anything public sources do not settle stays marked Unverified in the field itself.

Does Switzerland count as European?
Yes. Switzerland is outside the EU but European, with its own privacy law. Listings show Switzerland separately so you can decide for yourself.
Why are US companies in the list?
A few entries are marked as comparison entries, such as Brave or Bitwarden. They help with orientation and are never labelled European.
What does Unverified mean?
The owner or hosting could not be confirmed from public sources with confidence. The entry says so openly instead of inventing an answer. 11 of the original 34 open entries were re-checked on 2026-10-26 and closed with a named source.
